Displacement

Archimedes principle:
When an object is immersed in a liquid, it will displace its own weight of the liquid in which it floats.

In order for a vessel to float, the weight of the vessel has to be equal to the weight of the volume of liquid it displaces.

Displacement is the volume of liquid that a vessel displaces.
